RÉSIDENCE PRIVÉ

In the heart of Gavinana, a historic Florentine neighborhood, at the head of a 1970s building, lies an apartment that has undergone a surprising metamorphosis.
The new owners C. and D., one an engineer, the other a university lecturer, were fascinated by the apartment's location and brightness--exposed on three sides to the east, west and south--as well as its quietness, ensured by the vast garden shared with the building's other lodgings, which visually and acoustically preserves it from city traffic. The 100-square-meter interior of the apartment is adequate to accommodate a family consisting of the two adults and their little daughter.
A few carefully selected materials lend an elegant simplicity and coherence to the rooms. This apartment celebrates the beauty of well-conceived space and uncompromising functionality.
